Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada won’t commence tomorrow, April 9, as originally planned.
Nintendo of Canada told MobileSyrup it will temporarily halt pre-orders to “align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.”
The company said it will update consumers “at a later date” and confirmed the Switch 2 remains on track to launch in Canada on June 5.
The news comes days after Nintendo delayed Switch 2 pre-orders in the United States in response to sweeping tariffs issued by U.S. President Donald Trump.
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,” read a statement issued by the company.
Later that day, Nintendo of Canada told CBC Radio (via senior writer Jonathan Ore) that pre-orders for the Switch 2 in Canada would begin on April 9. That plan evidently changed.
This isn’t the only drama to have enveloped the Switch 2. Consumers have been voicing their concerns about the price of the console, which is due to retail at $449 in the United States. Major first-party release Mario Kart World will also cost $80 at launch, raising alarm bells that industry-wide price hikes could be imminent.
Responding to that sticker shock, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser told The Washington Post that $80 price tag isn’t universal, but rather “variable pricing” that will reflect “the development that’s gone into the game,” including the depth of the experience and replayability.
